چکیده

New microstructural rate controlling models for high temperature deformation are suggested which are in satisfactory agreement not only with activation parameter values but also with various metallographic observations. Non-compact slip in the HCP and FCC structures can be described by a kink pair mechanism. This process could control dislocation glide through subgrains, and therefore the creep rate, for the cases of Mg at intermediate temperatures and FCC metals in some ranges of the high temperature domain. Recent data on cross slip show that it could be rate controlling in Cu at intermediate temperatures. In a similar temperature range, dislocation emission out of subboundaries plays an important role in Al. Revue Phys. Appl. 23 (1988) 461-473 AVRIL 1988, Classification Physics Abstracts 62.20H

Comparison of Creep Behavior in Alumina Based Ceramics Densified by Spark Plasma Sintering and Hot Pressing

Spark plasma sintering (SPS) method, as plasma activated sintering, is a method applicable for rapid sintering of metals and ceramics. Owing to the advantage of rapid heating, the alumina ceramics obtained by SPS have a grain size and density comparable to those of hot pressed ones. The increase of densification rate may be related to some difference in ion transport characteristics. This study...

Creep Behavior of Basalt and Glass Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites

The creep behavior of basalt fiber reinforced epoxy (BFRE) and glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GFRE) composites was studied through tensile testing at high temperature. To study the effect of reinforcing epoxy, the micro glass powder (MGP) was added at various volume percentage into the epoxy resin in BFRE composites. The initial strain for all the specimens were evaluated and compared with each ...

Creep Characterization of Aluminum-Magnesium Solid-Solution Alloy through Self-Similar MicroindentationThis Paper was Originally Published in Japanese in J. Japan Inst. Metals 69 (2005) 348--355

Indentation creep tests were performed on an Al-5.3mol% Mg solid-solution alloy to examine whether mechanical properties can be extracted accurately from a testpiece, as small as a rice grain. A conical diamond indenter was pressed into a test surface with a constant load F at temperatures ranging from 0.60 to 0.65 Tm (Tm: the absolute liquidus temperature). When the representative flow stress ...

The Fracture Mechanics Concept of Creep and Creep/Fatigue Crack Growth in Life Assessment

There is an increasing need to assess the service life of components containing defect which operate at high temperature. This paper describes the current fracture mechanics concepts that are employed to predict cracking of engineering materials at high temperatures under static and cyclic loading. The relationship between these concepts and those of high temperature life assessment methods is ...

Creep and fracture of metals : mechanisms and mechanics

Modern methodologies that aim to reduce conservatism in the design of components operating at high temperatures rely on accurate predictions of materials’ behaviour in conditions relevant to those experienced in service. This requirement has focussed the attention of materials engineers on developing a quantitative understanding of damage-accumulation in engineering alloys. The microstructure o...
